Idea #16: 7,000 Steps Per Day Initiative

Idea #16:

7,000 Steps Per Day Initiative

Description: This project is based on a well-known piece of advice that has become widely accepted. That is – to improve ones personal health by taking 10,000 steps per day. Our approach of using the 7,000 numbers is two-fold: First, 7,000 can  be seen as an interim threshold, a great improvement over the 1,000-3,000 steps taken by an average sedentary person.  Second, 7,000 steps is a perfect number to represent the amount of increase required to move from “sedentary” to the optimal 10,000 steps per day.

Objectives:

* To experience this healthy activity personally.

* To draw more attention to this activity/technique.

* To explore ways of leveraging this concept into artistic applications

Idea #15: Put 7,000 Pieces of Content on a Website

Idea #15:

Put 7,000 Pieces of Content on a Website

Description: Put 7,000 pieces of content on a given website or blog. Material could range from songs to short articles, links, long articles, etc. Keep track of how the site does as content is added.

Objectives:

* One of the hypotheses of this project is that 7,000 pieces of content will create a site that is a force to be reckoned with – capable of influence or generating sales.

* To draw attention to our art

* To learn about the subtleties of traffic building and website / search optimization

* To add 7,000 pieces of content – it seems obvious that some or a lot of it is going to be “quick” – so hopefully we can learn to what extent content by itself (without being particularly good or original) can affect the prominence of a website

Idea #14: Measure the Effect of Having 7000 People Visit an Art Exhibit

Idea #14:

Measure the Effect of Having 7000 People Visit an Art Exhibit

Description: On Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, the Vancouver Art Gallery eclipsed one of its milestones. By 10 p.m., after the gallery had been open for an extended 12 hour day, a total of 7,600 people had entered the premises on the last day of Monet To Dali, an exhibition of modernist paintings and sculptures from the Cleveland Museum of Art.

Although the idea is based on 7,000 people visiting a project in person. A starting point and comparison point could be to observe 7,000 online visitors to one or more art exhibitions.

Objectives:

* What is the impact of such an occurrence?

* On the artist(s)? On the city? On the viewers? On art in general? etc.
